I can certainly echo all of the great things that people say about the capital city of the Netherlands.

In summary, (and according to Wikipedia) :

Amsterdam’s name derives from Amstelredamme, indicative of the city’s origin as a dam of the river Amstel. Originating as a small fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age (17th century), a result of its innovative developments in trade. During that time, the city was the leading center for finance and diamonds. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the city expanded, and many new neighbourhoods and suburbs were planned and built. The 17th-century canals of Amsterdam and the 19–20th century Defence Line of Amsterdam are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Check out this video to see a cool animated recreation of the growth of Amsterdam during the 17th century.

Between the canals, the architecture, the museums, the bicycles, the people and everything else on offer, Amsterdam is one of the most vibrant and photogenic cities in Europe, if not the world.

Digital photography is  bit of a mixed blessing sometimes. Having the ability to capture a virtually unlimited quantity of images is liberating in many ways but also leads to the inevitable – and sometimes overwhelming – task of selecting the images I like the best.

Many times I am torn and have a hard time choosing between one angle or another, or – as in this case – between landscape orientation or portrait.
